Birthday Box for Albina

Sunday, May 27, 2012

When I arrived in Gorlovka last week there was a birthday box waiting for me to deliver to Albina. This afternoon Albina (and Tanya) came by the house to pick up her present. She was thrilled to receive her gifts. Thanks to all our sponsors who provide for the children in the Sparrow's Hope program.

Great Week In Gorlovka

Monday, March 26, 2012

Last Thursday I took Kostya and Denis and we traveled to all the dormitories that the Sparrow's Hope kids live in and passed out flyers about the shopping trip for Saturday. We only found a few kids, most were not at the dorms. I contacted a couple of others through social media. On Saturday we took 16 of the kids shopping for Spring (and some more Winter) supplies. They all had a great time and are so appreciative for the blessings their sponsors provide.

Four other kids (Tanya, Albina, Dima and Ruslan) live with a foster family in town and they already had their Spring clothes purchased. The mother asked me about purchasing a wardrobe unit for their entry way and a bicycle for the kids. I agreed with that idea and she purchased the wardrobe and will get the bicycle tomorrow.

Thanks to all our sponsors who make it possible to provide needed supplies to these children. I can promise you that your gifts are making a difference in their lives.

Shopping with the Kids

We recently took the Sparrow's Hope Kids shopping. This shopping trip was dedicated to buying items for the winter. Most of the kids bought jackets, shoes, jeans, sweatsuits, personal items and socks. Thanks to our sponsors who make it possible to provide for these kids. We are really enjoying having many of the kids come to the worship room quite often.

Sparrow's Hope Kids Update

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

The orphanage closed on the last day of August and all the kids have moved to their new homes. On Sunday, September 4, we hosted a picnic for them at the Worship Room followed by a concert with our friends Pasha, Ignat and Artem who make up the band Unbelievable. The kids had a great time. Out of 30 kids living in dormitories and in foster care in the city we had about 25 attend events that weekend. We open the Worship Room from 3 to 7 PM everyday but Monday and they are attending pretty well.

There are seven boys who live in a dorm without showers (if you can imagine that!)and who also do not have cafeteria privileges! Right now Lora and the ladies from our church are feeding them a meal everyday and I give them care packages containing ramen noodles, instant mashed potatoes, cookies, tea, etc. Thanks to our sponsors who make it possible to help these young men. We also give them the opprotunity to shower regularly. They really appreciate the help that we give them. They are also attending our Bible Classes and Game Night each weekend. Please keep the kids in your prayers.

Shopping with the Kids

Friday, September 2, 2011

On Saturday, August 27, 2011 Lora, Dasha and Zhenya took 25 kids from Hope Orphanage shopping at the outside market. The kids had a great time shopping. The kids were all moving this week from the orphanage to their new homes in the technical school dormitories or in foster care homes. Lora invited the kids to visit us at the worship room where they can use the computer lab with internet access and do their laundry free of charge. She also invited them to attend our weekly classes and a picnic to kick off our new ministry to these kids on Sunday, September 4, 2011. Please be praying all the kids will decide to participate in the picnic and the weekly classes. Thanks to all our sponsors who make it possible for us to help these orphan children.

What's Going On...

Thursday, June 30, 2011

It was a sad day recently when I went to Hope Orphanage to disassemble the shelves for Sparrow's Hope Store. I also took the computers from the computer lab. It is sad to us that Hope Orphanage is closing just when our program was running so well. However, we have created a computer lab in the worship room. We will also install a washing machine and dryer in the worship room in the next few weeks. We are gearing up for the first of September when the kids who are going to the technical schools will move to their dormitories.

The Hope Orphanage kids are at summer camp currently and will be there until the middle of August. The orphanage director told us she will provide information about where the children will be living when they leave the orphange and try to help us arrange a meeting with foster parents for those kids who are going into foster care. We hope to maintain contact with and continue to provide help for as many of the sponsored children as possible.

When the kids arrive back at the orphanage after summer camp we will have another shopping trip with them to help them get ready for the start of school. We recently delivered supplies to them that they would need for camp.

Thanks to all our sponsors for making a difference in the lives of these children.
